Demand for labor will decline in the first quarter of next year, due to the global economic slowdown in the wake of the European debt crisis, according to a survey released by the Council for Labor Affairs (CLA).
The survey was conducted by CLA from October 21 to November 10 on companies with staff size of over 30. Valid samples were collected from 3,007 companies. The poll showed that 25.28 percent of enterprises plan to hire in the first quarter, a decline from 34.38 percent for this quarter. About 58.83 percent cited they will keep staff size the same, while 4.96 percent said they will reduce workers. Some 10.96 percent said they’re unsure about their Q1 hiring needs at this point, a rise from 5.59 percent for the current quarter, indicating a sense of uncertainty among firms, CLA said.
