On September 19, 2019, at 13.30 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul visited the Ban San Luang Tai Weaving Group in, Chom Sawan, Mae Chan District, Chiang Rai. Advisor to the Labour Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet, along with the ministry’s executives, also joined the occasion.
The said local weaving group received financial support from the Chiang Rai Employment Office, Department of Employment. It promotes careers to develop and upgrade skills following the project to encourage work to do at home, under the local weaving course for the 2019 fiscal year, between June 15-20, 2018. The project took place at Ban San Luang Tai Weaving Center, Chom Sawan, Mae Chan, Chiang Rai. It targeted a group of 20 people, to practice shawl weaving. The Chiang Rai Employment Office has provided knowledge and guidelines for group management, and advice regarding funds for home-based workers, including supporting, promotion and marketing, and continuously publicizing the products of the group, such as inviting local weaving groups to showcase products at sales events and study trips, both within the province and in others.
Currently, there are 167 members. The group formed as a share group, which generates income from dividends of 20 people, which comprises 12 elderly persons. Income averages at least 2,000 Baht per month. Currently, the Chiang Rai government offices have supported the budget to upgrade and develop the skills of group members continually.
