On July 2, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Advisory Board Member to the Ministry of Labour, Mr. Manas Kosol, to chair the meeting to discuss guidelines considering for labour volunteers in Bangkok to be compensated according to the Ministry of Labour’s Regulations on Labour Volunteers B.E. 2548. The meeting was with eight labour volunteer leaders, led by the President of the Bangkok Labour Volunteers, Mrs. Suchin Rungsawang. Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Ms. Aumpun Thuwawit and Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Ms. Pattaraporn Samantarat, also joined the meeting, which took place at the Prasong Rananant Meeting Room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour. The Federation of the National Informal Workers Coordination Center proposed that the Office of the Permanent Secretary of Labor set a budget for the work of volunteer workers in Bangkok, to be compensated at the same rate as other areas, to incorporate mechanisms to pass on complaints of informal workers, especially from the impact of Covid-19, between labour volunteers and the Ministry of Labour. It also proposed guidelines in developing the Ministry of Labour’s potential, as it continues to strengthen in various forms, to upgrade it to a professional mechanism at the local level.
Labour volunteers play an important part in helping the Ministry of Labour in various areas. It is an important mechanism that drives the Ministry of Labour’s missions to the people in the community area to truly meet the needs of the people and the communities. Labour volunteers also provide information, coordinate the needs of various labour services, and promote and prevent labour problems at the local level, to help workers have a better quality of life and work security. The Ministry of Labour currently has 2,066 labour volunteers in Bangkok, comprising 953 community labour volunteers and 1,113 taxi network labour volunteers, covering six zones, 50 districts, and 2,065 communities.
