Content Description

On July 25, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Deputy Director-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Mr. Wannarat Srisuksai, to visit the area to deliver 200 sets of food, drinks, water, M-150, and necessities to workers and their dependents in quarantine following the policy to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The delivery was part of the “sharing kindness to fight COVID-19” activity, where the Ministry of Labour delivers goods to workers to support them amid measures to close worker camps to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The delivery took place at three construction worker camps in the Lat Phrao area, namely, the worker’s camp at THER LADPRAO 93 of Vichitra Development Co., Ltd., with 100 people, the worker’s camp at the gas station construction project of Pritimut Engineering Co., Ltd., with 34 people and the worker’s camp at the housing project of C-Sand Construction Co., Ltd., with 34 people. The effort was in collaboration with the private sector, namely Osotsapa PCL, Leng Hong Restaurant, Ramintra Expressway branch, the Bangkok Cha-uat Association, Ekachai Distribution System Co., Ltd., the Thai Occupational Medicine Foundation, the Bangkok Work Safety Network Club, and Perfect Safety Training and Consulting Co., Ltd. The initiative aims to help workers have a good quality of life and help alleviate workers’ expenses while they cooperate with government measures.

The donation of food and necessary items from the private sector and people to give to employees in the workers’ camps are supplementary measures. The Ministry of Labour asks employers to provide three meals for their workers, whereas the Ministry of Labour will support consumer goods for camp workers affected by the CCSA’s measures to close the construction worker’s camp. The measure aims to restrict the travels and movement of workers in the dark red provinces for one month to control the spread of COVID-19 in worker camp clusters. In addition, the Ministry of Labour compensates for unemployment benefits, at 50 percent of wages.

Mr. Wannarat said that today, the Ministry of Labour by the Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin is concerned about the workers and families in the three construction camps and asks them to stay healthy and follow the measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The situation is still likely to escalate; therefore he was assigned to deliver food and consumables donated by the private sector and network partners to give the workers in quarantine following the measures to close the worker’s camp to alleviate the suffering and food expenses for workers.
