Labour Minister Commences Meeting to Acknowledge Suggestions from Recruitment Companies to Jointly Prepare a Labour Deployment Plan Immediately After COVID-19 Eases

                The labour Minister commenced the meeting on preparing plans to send job seekers to work overseas. The meeting also acknowledged problems and suggestions from recruiter representatives, and jointly prepared a plan to deploy Thai workers immediately after the COVID-19 pandemic situation improves.

                On June 20, 2020, at 10.00 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatu Mongol Sonakul presided over the meeting to prepare a plan for the deployment of job seekers to work overseas. The meeting acknowledged problems, obstacles, and suggestions of more than 80 recruiters so that Thai workers can be sent to work aboard immediately after the COVID-19 pandemic eases and the situation returns to normal. Secretariat to the Labour Minister Lt. Gen. Nuntadech Meksawat, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, Department of Employment’s Director-General Mr. Suchart Pornchaiwisetkun and the Ministry of Labour’s executive committee also joined the meeting at the job seeker training room before overseas deployment, 11th floor, Bangkok Social Security Office Building, Area 3, Ministry of Labour.

                Labour Minister M.R. Chatu Mongol Sonakul said that the government is aware of the importance of sending Thai workers to work abroad and is determined to raise the quality of life of workers to have higher incomes, by promoting employment abroad and developing the potential of Thai workers in alignment with the labor market Working abroad alleviates unemployment issues in the country, and brings in income into the country, exceeding 140,000 million Baht annually, which is a great benefit to the national economy. In addition, going to work abroad is another way to develop human resources as Thai workers will gain experience and transfer technological know-how which can be utilized for national development. At present, the COVID-19 pandemic has spread in Thailand and in foreign countries which are important labour markets such as Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and in Europe, which has impacted the deployment of Thai workers in general, resulting in the target of sending Thai workers to work in foreign countries to change.

                However, Thai workers are still in demand from overseas employers, comprising both skilled and semi-skilled workers. Jobs in the service sector and hotels overseas, still require skilled workers from Thailand as Thai workers have advantages in having a service mentality, and are diligent, honest, and disciplined, the Labour Minister concluded.
