Labour Minister Confirms Urgent Assistance to Employees in Samut Prakarn to Receive Unemployment Benefits from the Social Security Fund Quickly

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin gave words of encouragement to employees of the women undergarments production company in Samut Prakarn. He urged the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare to expedite tracking on compensation and benefits to employees as soon as possible. He instructed the Social Security Office to pay compensation in case of unemployment as soon as possible.

          On March 12, 2021, at the Chatumongkol meeting room, 6th floor, Ministry of Labour, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin welcomed President of the Automobile Labour Congress of Thailand, Mr. Manit Promkarikul, on leading impacted employees from Brilliant Alliance Thai Global Ltd., a manufacturer of women undergarments in Samut Prakan. The employees were laid off due to business closure. The representatives met with the Labour Minister to expedite tracking of compensation and benefits to employees quickly. Assistant to the Labour Minister Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong, Advisor to the Labour Minister Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, the Labour Minister’s Secretariat Mr. Suthep Chitayavong, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, and the Ministry of Labour’s executives also joined the occasion. The Labour Minister said that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the Ministry of Labour under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, have great concern for the workforce. Therefore, the Ministry of Labour was instructed to proactively follow up on the cause of the announcement to close the business and lay off employees and to urgently assist and provide remedial rights under the law.

          Mr. Suchart said that he has already reported this case to the Prime Minister, who sent his care and encouragement to all the impacted workers. The Labour Minister has ordered the Social Security Office to pay unemployment compensation as soon as possible. From today’s initial discussions, the workers will apply for unemployment benefits from the Social Security Fund. For the Employee Welfare Fund, he assigned the Director-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare to consider steps under the law. The Ministry of Labour relies on the workforce and will try to help the workers as much as possible.
