Labour Minister Embeds Royal Teachings in Guidelines for Establishing Savings Cooperatives in Organizations to Promote Workers’ Quality of Life

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklim embeds royal teachings in guidelines for establishing savings cooperatives in establishments and state enterprises to be sustainable and drive for the workers’ quality of life.
          On March 22, 2021, at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel, Bangkok, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin presided over the opening ceremony to promote the savings cooperatives in establishments and state enterprises. He also awarded certificates of honour to organizations that have established saving cooperatives in 2019 and 2020. Assistant to the Labour Minister Mr. Surachai Chaitrakulthong, Advisor to the Labour Minister Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, Police Major General Nantachat Supamongkol from the Office of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat performing duties for the Ministry of Labour, Advisory Board Member to the Labour Minister Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol and the Ministry of Labour’s executives also joined the occasion. The event was held to encourage workers to have a discipline in saving and have a borrowing source in times of need with fair interest rates. It also aims to promote organizations and state enterprises to recognize the importance of establishing a savings cooperative as welfare for employees in the organization and to build cooperation among the public, private, and state enterprises in driving the success of savings cooperatives.
           Mr. Suchart said the government had announced the country’s vision for “Thailand as a stable, prosperous, and sustainable, developed country by developing the sufficiency economy philosophy.” The Ministry of Labour has set a mission to enhance labour potential and for organizations to be ready for changing situations, following the country’s development and direction. The mission is under the vision that “workers have high potential and a good quality of life.” It introduces His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s sciences to promote cooperatives and the philosophy of a sufficiency economy as the main factor in encouraging the establishment of savings cooperatives in business organizations. It is a valuable mission to help create a savings discipline and strengthen the immunity for future life among the workforce.
          The event consisted of a presentation of certificates to honour 26 business organizations with savings cooperatives in 2019 and 2020. There was a special lecture on “Cooperative Thinking and Guidelines: Solution to a Sustainable Economy and Social Inequality,” with a consulting clinic on the establishment of savings cooperatives in business organizations. There was also an exhibition on the performance of savings cooperatives, showcasing model companies in promoting the cooperative’s members’ quality of life, and a discussion on “Good Governance in the Administration of Cooperatives Following Our Fathers’ Footsteps.” There was also a small group meeting to discuss guidelines and exchange experiences in setting up a savings cooperative in establishments and state enterprises. Participants included model business organizations with savings cooperatives, agencies involved in promoting savings and investment, and relevant officials, totaling 380 people.
