Content Description

September 28, 2026 – Mr. Julapun Amornvivat, Minister of Labour, disclosed details of the flood situation in Sa Kaeo and Chanthaburi Provinces, stating that the latest reports confirmed a total of eight fatalities, including five in Sa Kaeo Province and three in Chanthaburi Province. He instructed the Social Security Office (SSO) to urgently verify the insured status and benefit entitlements of all deceased and liaise with their families and heirs to assist them as swiftly as possible, in accordance with their rights.

Preliminary checks in Sa Kaeo Province identified five fatalities, among whom one was an insured person under Section 40, Option 3, entitled to a funeral benefit of 50,000 Baht, with other entitlements still under verification. One further fatality had previously been an insured person under Section 33, whilst the remaining fatalities were found to have no insured status, and one case is still under investigation to confirm the individual’s identity.

In Chanthaburi Province, three fatalities were reported in connection with the flooding and related events. Of these, two were found not to be insured persons, while one had previously been an insured person; the Social Security Office is verifying the details and relevant entitlements under the applicable criteria.

In cases of death not arising from work, insured persons under Section 33 and Section 39 who meet the legal conditions are entitled to a funeral benefit of 50,000 Baht, as well as an old-age lump sum together with returns, and a death benefit for those meeting the prescribed contribution conditions. Insured persons under Section 40, Options 1 and 2, are entitled to a funeral benefit of 25,000 Baht; under Option 2, those who have made contributions for 60 months before death in accordance with the conditions will receive an additional 8,000 Baht. Insured persons under Section 40, Option 3, are entitled to a funeral benefit of 50,000 Baht. The Social Security Office will verify other entitlements for each deceased person on a case-by-case basis against contribution history and eligibility criteria.

Mr. Julapun said that he has instructed the Social Security Offices in the affected areas to monitor the situation closely and coordinate with relevant agencies to continuously verify information on the deceased and affected insured persons. Where entitlements to benefits are confirmed, offices are to liaise swiftly with heirs and facilitate proceedings to ensure they receive their full entitlements as promptly as possible.

“I wish to express my sincere condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives in this flooding. The Ministry of Labour will provide full support in all matters within its remit. I have instructed the Social Security Office to thoroughly verify the entitlements of every deceased person, as well as to look after insured persons affected by the flood situation, so that those entitled and their families receive assistance in accordance with their rights without delay,” Mr. Julapun said.
