Labour Minister Gives Statement on Relief Measures for Thai Workers from COVID-19

           Today (March 13, 2020) at 14.00 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatu Mongol Sonakul gave a press release to the media about measures to support Thai workers and mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 virus, in terms of living and occupation. Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat also joined the occasion, which took place at the Government Press Conference Center for new infections (COVID-19), Naree Samosorn building, Government Houses. He said that the Thai workers who returned from risky countries from the Covid-19 virus outbreak and have been detained at home after 14 days, the Ministry of Labour’s agencies in each province would verify the fund membership eligibility to assist job seekers working overseas. If the returned Thai is a member of the said fund, they will receive a grant of 15,000 Baht, whereby officials of the affected countries must have already declared itself as an affected area. For workers looking for employment, the Department of Employment has prepared 60,000 vacancies. For those who want to improve their skills and look for self-employment, the Department of Skill Development will train their skills and provide advice on labour protection laws and social security benefits as well.
