The Labour Minister gave an urgent order for the five labour agencies in the Sukhothai area to expedite assistance to flood victims in Sukhothai in accordance with all dimensions of the labour missions. The support would survey employers and employee that are affected to provide basic assistance. After the water subsides, the agencies will restore occupation and employment remedies.
Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported the progress from the situation of the Yom River in Sukhothai. The report from the Sukhothai Provincial Labour Office reported that on August 23, the water levels in the Yom River in Sukhothai province was constantly increasing and recently eroded the road along the Yom River. It is an area under construction of the Yom River with a distance of about 1,300 meters which has been damaged. Furthermore, there was flooding in Moo 1, Ban Wang Hin and Moo 7, Ban Bang Sarong, Pak Kwai, which are conjoining areas. The floods have impacted 3 districts, 14 sub-districts, 36 villages, 4,534 people and 1,587 households. It has damaged agricultural land amounting to 111 rai, 50 rai of corn, 30 rai of chilli, 1 rai of melon, 7,185 rai of rice paddies and 10 rai of cocoa. Furthemore, 2 roads in Mueang Sukhothai district and 3 in Sawankhalok districts have been damaged, together with the waterworks in one village.
Mr. Suchart continued that he has ordered the Sukhothai Provincial Labour Office, together with agencies under the Ministry of Labour to prepare the provision of care and assistance to those affected. There is monitoring and surveillance of the situation through integration with various agencies in the province, to aid following their duties. The district labour volunteers were assigned to monitor and report the situation as another channel of communications.
“The Ministry of Labour is prepared to help employers and employees affected by the flooding. The people can ask for assistance at the departments under the Ministry of Labour in the area or contact the Ministry of Labour’s 1506 hotline or the Facebook page “Heng Team” directly,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
