July 9, 2026 at 13.30 hours local Malaysian time – Mr. Julapun Amornvivat, Minister of Labour, accompanied the delegation of Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, on an official visit to Malaysia to strengthen bilateral relations and hold discussions with Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia. The visit focused on elevating strategic cooperation to create an “area of opportunity” connecting cross-border economic development and labour skills development, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
In this significant round of discussions, both countries expressed their shared intention to accelerate the development of border infrastructure connectivity to reduce logistics costs and facilitate trade and tourism, which will directly contribute to raising the incomes of people in the area. On matters within the Ministry of Labour’s remit, Mr. Julapun emphasised the policy of “labour skills development” aligned with economic expansion in the border area, focusing on preparing local workers to be capable of supporting supply chains in high-technology industries, food security, and energy sectors, in line with the two governments’ shared target of driving bilateral trade value to US$30,000 million.
Key topics discussed included infrastructure connectivity, through accelerating transport development to enhance the capacity for border trade; human resource development, by upskilling workers in the border area to be ready for future industries; security and economic matters, by jointly combating transnational crime and building peace in the southern border provinces, alongside strengthening food security and agriculture.
The Prime Minister tasked the relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Labour, with expediting concrete implementation of the discussion outcomes as swiftly as possible, to generate employment and sustainably improve the quality of life of both Thai and Malaysian people. He also extended an invitation to the Malaysian Prime Minister to make an official visit to Thailand to advance cooperation across various dimensions further.
