Labour Minister Leads Meeting on Foreign Worker Management Guidelines Under Covid-19 Controls

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin held a meeting to prepare guidelines on the management of foreign workers, resolve the issue of unregistered foreigners escaping quarantine, and help employers/companies hire foreign workers legally.

          On December 25, 2020, at 09.30 hours, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin chaired the meeting to prepare guidelines for foreign workers’ management to present to the Cabinet. The meeting took place at the Tri Thep Meeting Room 2, 14th floor, Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour. The Foreign Worker Management Policy Committee Meeting No. 5/2020 on December 23, 2020, agreed on the principles of the management of the work of foreigners within the country, as proposed by the Secretary Department. The guidelines are in addition to the Center of the Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) meeting on December 24, 2020, chaired by the Prime Minister. He showed concern about unregistered foreigners and those escaping quarantine and assigned to the Ministry of Labour to consider taking relevant actions to resolve the issue and propose to the Cabinet for consideration.

          Mr. Suchart said that with the Covid-19 spread in Samut Sakhon and many areas at the moment, the government under the leadership of Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha and the Ministry of Labour under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan gives importance to taking care of all workers of all nationalities working in Thailand. They are concerned about all workers in all groups in the workplace regarding the Covid-19 epidemic situation, announcing a ban on the movement of migrant workers in all cases and providing surveillance and screening measures such as public relations to create awareness about wearing masks and washing hands with alcohol gel. The Ministry of Labour has established the MOL Center of the Covid-19 Situation Administration (MOL CCSA) to direct the operations according to the orders from the CCSA, to central, regional and overseas offices, to gather information and coordinate with relevant departments to issues measures assisting companies, employers and employees.

          Today’s meeting shared opinions to jointly consider developing guidelines for managing foreign workers within the country with relevant agencies. The meeting aims to resolve unregistered aliens and those escaping from quarantine, helping employers/companies hire foreign workers legally. The measures will be proposed to the Cabinet for further consideration.
