Labour Minister Listens to Issues from Longan Agricultural Cooperatives in Chanthaburi Requesting Support During the Harvest Season

            On August 31, 2020, at 09.00 hours, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin met and listened to issues and complaints from longan agricultural cooperatives in Chanthaburi province, suffering from labour shortages in the longan harvesting season for 2020 – 2021. The session was with Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister (General Prayuth Chan-ocha) Mr. Suporn Attathawong and Director-General of the Department of Employment, Mr. Suchat Pornchaiwiseskul, upon request by the President of Cooperative Club and the Soi Dao-Pong Nam Ron Agricultural Group Mr. Anek Thammasut. The request was to meet and clarify the issues that have caused suffering from the Covid-19 pandemic, to help alleviate the troubles for longan farmers. The meeting took place at the Complaint Center, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister.

            Representatives from the longan agricultural cooperative in Chanthaburi said that an important factor in longan harvesting and packaging for export are workers from Cambodia, who have experience in harvesting, sorting, and packing fresh longan. But due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the workers are unable to travel for work and be hired. Therefore, as a member representative, he requested to meet to clarify the problem and seek help to alleviate longan farmers’ troubles urgently.
