The Labour Minister showed concern for the 25 Thai workers returning from Libya, upon request for assistance from the embassy to return to Thailand due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Suvarnabhumi Immigration Checkpoint was urged to facilitate the workers’ return, together with agencies in the area to meet, visit, encourage, and help workers’ families.
On September 22, 2020, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the progress of the Ministry of Labour, which received a report by Commander Lieutenant Vittavat Koodprasert, Minister Counselor (on Labour) from the Labour Office in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh), that 25 Thai workers were working in Libya that previously requested help from the Royal Thai Embassy in Rome. The request was regarding their return to Thailand, from fear of contracting Covid-19 from Libya’s pandemic situation.
Mr. Suchart also spoke about the Labour Office report in Riyadh, that all 25 Thai workers have arrived at the airport in Doha, Qatar, and will board a connecting flight on Qatar Airways today (September 22, 2020) on flight QR836 at 3.10 hours. The workers arrived in Thailand safely on 14.10 hours.
The Labour Minister also assigned the Suvarnabhumi Immigration Checkpoint to facilitate workers and provincial agencies under the Ministry of Labour in the areas where the Thai workers have returned from Libya to live after being in state quarantine. He asked representatives from agencies in the area to provide encouragement and assistance regarding the benefits to the Thai workers’ families.
“I would like to thank the embassy and relevant agencies that have helped to coordinate with the Thai workers on their return to Thailand today. The Suvarnabhumi Immigration Checkpoint was instructed to take care and facilitate their arrival. The workers are now in state quarantine. I have asked provincial agencies in the areas where the workers live to visit the area, to meet, encourage, and help the families of each worker,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
