Labour Minister Shows Concern for Employees and Calls Urgent Official Meeting to Enhance Remedial Measures for Covid-19

          The Labour Minister called an urgent official meeting to enhance remedial measures for insured employees. The meeting discussed the amendment of ministerial regulations and new directions for insured employees in the social security system, to be entitled to compensation for lack of income of not less than 5,000 Baht per month, effective from March 1, 2020.

          Today (March 29, 2020), Labour Minister M.R. Chatu Mongol Sonakul called an urgent official meeting for the Ministry of Labour’s executives and relevant government agencies. Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, the Social Security Office’s Secretariat Mr. Tosapol Kritawongwiman along with the Secretary-General of the Council of State, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau of the Budget and the Revenue Department’s Performance Advisor, also joined the discussion on measures to assist insured workers in the social security system affected by the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus.

          The meeting agreed that the Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office amends ministerial regulations prescribing directions so that insured persons in the social security system that are entitled to compensation for lack of income of less than 5,000 Baht, be entitled to receive a minimum of 5,000 Baht per month. The measures are effective from March 1, 2020, for consistency and equality in helping workers who are not in the social security system. The measures will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval on the upcoming Tuesday, March 31.
