Labour Minister Shows Concern for Employees in Fire and Instructs Agencies to Investigate and Support

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin instructed agencies under the Ministry of Labour to urgently visit the area for investigation. From initial findings, no one was injured or killed. The Safety Center in the Workplace Zone 2 coordinated with the Rayong Office of Labour Protection and Welfare to examine the workplace’s safety and fire prevention measures.

          On February 3, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the fire incident at a steel mill at Millcon Steel Public Company Limited. He said that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha and the Ministry of Labour under the supervision of General Prawit Wongsuwan, is concerned about this fire incident and instructed a visit the area. The Labour Minister urged agencies to conduct an urgent investigation to help all employees recieve legal benefits. He charged the Rayong Labour Protection and Welfare Office staff to investigate the cause of this fire and to explain to the employer to comply with the Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Act B.E. 2555, including fire prevention measures in the workplace.

          Mr. Suchart continued that the Rayong Labour Protection and Welfare Office’s inspection found that the incident occurred last night (February 2, 2021) around 21.00 hours. The fire occurred in a steel smelter at Millcon Steel Public Company Limited, located at 99 Moo 3, Nikhom Phatthana. Nikhom Phatthana, Rayong. The company is engaged in the production of basic iron and steel. From the total of176 employees, 137 are male, and 39 are female. Initial findings found that no one was injured or killed. For the cause, the investigation is underway. The Safety Center in the Workplace Zone 2 has coordinated with the Rayong Labour Protection and Welfare Office o examine the facts and analyze the fire’s cause and will proceed according to the law.
