On February 14, 2025, Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, the Permanent Secretary of Labour, and Mr. Sakdinart Sonthisakyotin, Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour, participated in the OECD Ministerial meeting on the topic of New Frontiers for Social Policy: Investing in the Future OECD in Paris, France.
Mr. Phiphat spoke at the OECD Ministerial Meeting to OECD members and delegations and joined the sub-group meeting on Sustainable Financing of Social Protection with delegations from Spain, Estonia, Latvia, Mexico, Norway, and the Swiss Confederation. He said that Thailand believes that social investment in human resources is important and that human capital development is one of the most sustainable ways to cope with the challenges in a rapidly changing world. The Ministry of Labour oversees three key areas, that is labour, skills, and technology, divided into the following five issues.
1. Developing the workforce to support the new economy – Focus on upskilling and reskilling and preparing the workforce for AI, a digital economy, and a green economy.
2. Sustainable labour policies – Coping with an aging society, developing social security systems and old-age pensions, promoting gender equality, and improving labour welfare.
3. Thailand’s role in the global labour market – Attracting highly skilled workers, and effectively managing migrant workers.
4. Future challenges – Adapting to the Gig economy, AI, and changes in employment patterns.
5. International cooperation – Learning from OECD guidelines and promoting investment that develops Thai workers.
“Thailand emphasizes its role as the center of the ASEAN workforce and is ready to adapt to a sustainable new economy.”
