On November 25, 2019, at 14.00 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol and the ministry’s executives welcomed Ms. Heidi Gallant, Executive Director of The American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand (AMCHAM) and committee, on courtesy call and to congratulate the Labour Minister on appointment to his new position. The meeting also discussed official matters at the Saengsingkaew conference room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour. The meeting discussed the topic of the Ease of Doing Business concerning the issuance of work permits for foreigners, Smart Visas, and work permits for permanent residents. It also discussed guidelines for the consideration of a minimum wage of 400 Baht, promoting skills development to support the Thailand 4.0 policy and guidelines for cooperation between the Ministry of Labour and AMCHAM Thailand. In October 2019, 8,323 American nationals were permitted to work in Thailand, mostly in the education sector in universities and institutes. In 2019, a total of 2,593 Thais traveled to work in the US.
