Labour Minister Welcomes EU Ambassador to Discuss Labour Cooperation

          On January 23, 2020, at 10.00 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol and the ministry’s executives welcomed Ambassador of the European Union to Thailand Mr. Pirkka Tapiola and delegation, on a courtesy call to the Labour Minister, and to discuss official matters. The meeting took place at the Saengsingkaew conference room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour.

          Today’s meeting exchanged views on labour policies that the Labour is focusing on, and on ongoing cooperation projects for both sides. The projects aim to protect migrant workers from becoming victims of forced labour and human trafficking, including the Ship to Shore Rights Project, the Safe & Fair: Realizing women worker’s rights and opportunities in the ASEAN region project, and Responsible Supply Chains in Asia. The meeting also scheduled the second series of high-level meetings on labour between Thailand and the European Union in February 2020, particularly on the issue of appropriate forms of social protection cooperation for informal workers in the future.
