Police General Adul Sangsingkeo welcomed President of IM Japan Mr. Kyoei Yanagisawa on a courtesy call to the Labour Minister to discuss official matters regarding technical internships under the IM Japan program. Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Jarin Chakkaphark alongside the ministry’s senior executives also attended the meeting at the Labour Minister’s meeting room, 6th floor, Ministry of Labour.

In this discussion, IM Japan made proposals on various issues, such as the request for cooperation from the Ministry of Labour to help to promote the delivery of Thai technical trainees to train in Japan, to commence candidate assessments in outer provinces, improve capacity of pre-departure training center to accommodate more trainees and introduce graduates from IM Japan for example.
IM Japan’s technical training program agreed to accept Thai trainees with the Ministry of Labour since 1998, whereby the Department of Employment conducts the selection and delivery process. At present, 5,698 Thais have trained in the program at over 1,700 organizations throughout Japan. According to the data at the end of January 2019, there were 955 Thai trainees in Japan in 210 establishments throughout Japan. At present, the Government of Japan has amended the law by extending the internship period from 3 years to 5 years. Since January 2018, many trainees completed their third year and passed the skill level test at level 3, and will be able to return to the internship for the 4th and 5th years. There are also dozens of Thai trainees starting to travel to the same company in the 4th year.
