Labour Minister Welcomes Vice President of the International Trade Union Confederation

          On January 7, 2020, at 15.00 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul and Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol welcomed Secretary-General of the State Enterprises Workers’ Relations Confederation (SERC) Mr. Sawit Kaewwan, President of the Thai Trade Union Congress Mr. Thawee Techathirawat and Vice President of the Thai Labour Reconciliation Committee Mr. Chali Loi-sung, led Ms. Cathy Feingold Vice President of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and Director of International Development at the American Federation of Labour and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), a leader in global labour rights issues. The visit was a courtesy call to the Minister of Labour, to exchange information about the labour situation in Thailand and solutions to problems if Thailand is deprived of the Generalized System of Preference (GSP) by the United States of America.

          The ITUC is the largest labour union in the world. There are 333 employee organizations joined from 163 countries, with a total of 200 million members worldwide. The International Labour Organization (ILO) recognizes that ITUC is the only representative organization of employees as a single tripartite component of the ILO. The ITUC operates in different regions, in which Thailand is in the Asia-Pacific region. There are 4 employee organizations in Thailand are members of ITUC, which are the Employees’ Organization Council of Thailand, the Employee Organization Council of the Private Industry Labour Council, the Thai Trade Union Congress and the State Enterprises Workers’ Relations Confederation.
