Content Description

On January 6, 2020, Advisor to the Labour Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet visited informal workers (Ton Thongchai Handmade Group) at SML Pavilion, Moo 1, Ton Thongchai, Mueang, Lampang.

The group was formed by a group of housewives and the elderly in the Ton Thongchai sub-district. There are currently 50 members who bring their knowledge and local wisdom to the production of products for sale, to earn an income, and make good use of free time, along with increasing love and unity to the community. In 2017, the group received the opportunity from the Women’s and Family Development Learning Center in Northern Lampang, to financial support for vocational training programs, allowing the group to have a stable and sustainable career. The group produces a variety of products according to the aptitude of each person, allowing for unique products to be sold, according to what customers want. The group’s products are handmade work, such as wallets, souvenirs, key chains, and hair bands, for example. The support that they seek from the government includes enhancing skills in using industrial machinery and hand sewing, promoting the enhancement of group products, increasing channels for sale online, and having a definite place to sell products. In this regard, agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Lampang will support and coordinate with relevant agencies to improve the skills of the members and further add value to products.
