MOL Chief Inspector-General Monitors Resolution on the Suffering of Ubon Ratchathani Citizens

          On February 24, 2020, the Ministry of Labour’s Chief Inspector-General Mr. Suwan Duangta joined the inspection with the Inspector-General of the Prime Minister’s Office, inspection area 14, along with inspectors from various ministries and relevant departments. The meeting took place at the Pathum Worarat Meeting Room, Ubon Ratchathani Provincial City Hall, with the aim to monitor and resolve the problems of people suffering. Provincial Governor of Ubon Ratchathani Mr. Sarit Withun, Deputy Provincial Governor of Ubon Ratchathani Mr. Suphasit Korcharoenchot and heads of government in Ubon Ratchathani also joined the meeting to monitor and provide information on monitoring issues, consisting of 1) monitoring to support the Mekong ecological change 2) monitoring of the PM 2.5 dust situation and the spread of COVID-19 3) follow-up on the solutions for forest fires, droughts, and floods 4) follow-up on solutions in the area by using the Government Innovation Lab process for 2020, following the project for development of tourist destinations in the footsteps of Alexander the Great and 5) the disease-free animal safety program. The Inspector-General of the Prime Minister’s Office will gather information from relevant government agencies to present.

          The report found that the water in the Mekong River has decreased in recent years and the erosion of land on the banks has affected the ecosystem and livelihood, including occupations of people on the banks of the Mekong River. The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General proposed that the Ministry of Labour is prepared if the people who work in the Mekong River have a desire to change their career or want to find work to have a freelance job for a stable income. He requested to coordinate with agencies under the Ministry of Labour in Ubon Ratchathani, to develop skills and employment, and for the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The Ministry of Labour has already monitored and has measures to protect employees in the workplace. In the afternoon, the Inspector-General joined the visit to areas along the banks of the Mekong River, at the Khong Chiam boat station.
