On November 4, 2020, at 22.30 hours in Thailand, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Ms. Pattraporn Samatrat, representatives from the Office of International Cooperation, Department of Employment, and Department of Skill Development, participated in the 340th Session of the International Labour Organization Governing Body, through video conference. The Session is held between November 2 – 14, 2020.
The Permanent Secretary of Labour made a statement on behalf of the ASEAN region on the agenda on “The Mission to Promote Youth Employment and Adopt the Youth Employment Action Plan 2020 – 2030”. The essence includes the ASEAN Declaration on Human Resource Development for a Changing World and the cooperation between ASEAN countries in setting directions for educational reform and formulating the ASEAN Human Resource Development Roadmap, which will be submitted to the ASEAN Summit for approval in November 2020.
In addition, the Permanent Secretary of Labour confirmed that ASEAN places importance on youth development while protecting youths’ rights at work. All ASEAN Member States have ratified the two main conventions relating to the work of youth: Convention No. 138 on the minimum age for work, 1973, and Convention No. 182 on the ban and immediate action to eliminate the worst forms of child labour, 1999.
