MOL Joins Bilateral Meeting to Discuss Task Force on Labour Migration

          On August 13, 2021, at 13.00 hours, Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour Ms. Pattraporn Samantarat participated in a bilateral meeting to discuss the Task Force on Labour Migration under the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation Program (GMS). The meeting took place online, organized by the GMS Secretariat, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The participants in the meeting consisted of the Thai task force, namely representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Public Health, the National Economic and Social Development Council, the Office of the National Security Council, the Royal Thai Police Department, the Department of Employment, the Department of Skill Development, the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, the Social Security Office and Office of International Cooperation. The meeting took place at the conference room of the Office of International Cooperation, 12th floor, Ministry of Labour.

          The IOM presented five topics for the GMS Migration Conference: 1. Cross-border migration and trade in the GMS. 2. Housing for migrant workers after the COVID-19 pandemic. 3. Technology and migration. 4. The future of the labour market and migrant workers 5. Migrant workers and debt in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministry of Labour agreed on cross-border migration and trade in the GMS, aiming to focus on importing workers with cross-border COVID-19 control measures and accountability for costs that should be addressed clearly in employment contracts.
