On October 16, 2019, Advisor to the Labour Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet presided over the opening ceremony of the Employment and Job Seeker Protection Center at the arrivals area of SC Plaza Building, Bangkok Bus Terminal (Borommaratchachonnani Road) or the Southern Bus Terminal. The Department of Employment’s Deputy Director-General and Acting Director-General Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat gave a report. The Labour Minister’s Advisor said the government attaches importance to solving the country’s poverty. It has defined the 20-year National Strategic Framework and the 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan that focuses on Thailand as “a nation that is stable, prosperous and sustainable” through job creation, income generation, fairness, and reducing inequality in response to government policy. The Department of Employment has followed the project to provide employment services and job seeker protection, and thus, has opened the Employment and Job Seeker Protection Center, with location support by the Siri Project Construction Co., Ltd., and the Bangkok Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai). The Ministry of Labour is the primary agency for job search and jobseeker protection services to ensure that the people have jobs and can access services conveniently, quickly, and inexpensively, as well as to protect job seekers from fraud, where job seekers are deceived into victims of human trafficking. Initially, there were two service points for the public, namely Mo Chit 2 Bus Terminal and Hua Lamphong Railway Station. Many people have used services in the past. Thus, to provide more comprehensive services to the people, the Ministry of Labour has expanded the Employment and Job Seeker Protection Center to the third location at the Passenger Terminal (Sai Tai Mai).
Mrs. Theanrat said that this Employment and Job Seeker Protection Center would provide domestic employment services to job seekers and employers/companies looking to recruit. It will also provide unemployment insurance registration services and overseas employment services by registering job seekers looking for work abroad. Furthermore, it will advise employers/companies employing foreign workers, disperse labour market information, and receive complaints. Additionally, it will serve people in the western and southern regions as well. Inquiries can be made at the provincial employment office in all provinces, the Bangkok Employment Office Area 1-10, or call the Ministry of Labour’s 1506 hotline and press 2 for the Department of Employment
