Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin revealed that employers, workers, and partners of the workplace safety network in all sectors thanked the government and the Ministry of Labour for organizing a training program on occupational safety. The training aims to help reduce accidents and injuries in the workplace and build awareness of preventive occupational safety measures. The parties acknowledged that it was beneficial to the workers, who can use the knowledge in practice to prevent the dangers from working.
On February 27, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin revealed that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Defense Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and the Ministry of Labour under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan gives importance to all worker groups who must receive welfare and legal protection for a good quality of life. The efforts also ensure that the workforce upholds occupational safety, health, and working environment. Therefore, the Labour Minister assigned the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare to organize training for training agencies authorized by the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare to provide workplace safety training for workers, free of charge. The training sessions are scheduled between January – March 2021, offering courses on occupational safety, health, and working environment following legal requirements. The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare is responsible for these efforts under the concept of “free skills training to beat accidents and care for the workforce.” The training courses mentioned above are provided to safety officers at the executive, supervisory and technical levels, occupational safety, health, and working environment committees, working in confined spaces, primary fire extinguishing, fire drills, and fire evacuation drills, for example. There are 207 training agencies that have applied to participate in the campaign, comprising 70 private companies and 137 government agencies, providing training to 15,007 people without charge. The training aims to help reduce the cost of training courses as required by law, valued at 17,597,500 Baht.
Mr. Suchart continued that the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare progress reported 36 agencies conducting the training as of February 26, 2021, consisting of 14 private agencies and 22 government agencies, to 2,880 workers without charge. Can help reduce the cost of training courses according to the law, amounting to 611,000 Baht.
Mr. Rut Chalayatri, from the Nakhon Ratchasima Safety Officer Network, together with Perfect Safety Training and Consulting Co., Ltd., is a training unit registered by the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare. Mr. Rut was one of the training course participants on “Supervisory and Management Level Safety Officers.” He said that the project is beneficial to workers. The company was happy to join the project, free of charge, to reduce injuries from work and build awareness of preventive measures for occupational safety. Overall, he said that the project would benefit workers.
Mr. Chaiya Jaibamrung, Deputy Manager from CPF (Thailand) Public Company Limited, from the Hat Yai land animal feed manufacturing plant, joined the program on behalf of management representatives from 30 business establishments in Songkhla. He joined the program on “safety at work in confined spaces” in the first class for licensors. He said that he agreed with the organization of the project on occupational safety training for workers. He thanked the government and the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Labour Protection and Welfare and Southern Safety Company Limited for recognizing the importance of safety for work in confined spaces. Each year there are many injuries and deaths. Moreover, the company organizing the training also devotes valuable time and resources, providing the training free of charge. It is a good opportunity for companies that want to reduce their costs during the Covid-19 pandemic. He said that he hopes the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Labour Protection and Welfare will continue good projects such as these in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Mr. Thanayot Sawangsawai, an employee from DSS Security Company Limited, gave feedback on behalf of representatives who attended the “initial firefighting training” course and “firefighting and evacuation drill” training. He thanked the government, the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, and ATC Service and Training Limited Partnership for jointly organizing the free training for workers. He said that the training would allow participants to apply the knowledge gained from the training to prevent and suppress fires in the workplace, limiting injuries and deaths in the workplace and saving the company’s assets. The participants promised that they would apply the speakers’ knowledge to implement in their work to workplace safety for their own companies in the future. He said that he sincerely hopes that the government and the Ministry of Labour will organize such useful training programs for workers in the following years.
