On Sunday 1st May 2011, Office of Labour Affiars in Malaysia held a Labour Day Ceremony in line with its labour solidarity project to mark a Labour Day. Several activities were organized in the event including a sport competition for southern Thai border provinces’ workers working in restaurants in Malaysia, and counseling service on consul-and labour-related matter.

In a footsall tournament, 24 teams entered the competition. It was a knockout tournament with paring for each round drawn at random. The winner was Darussalam and the team received an award from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Malaysia (Mr. Thana Duangratana). The award was presented by Charge d’affaires to Malaysia (Mr. Sompong Kangthong). Second to Fourth place winners received an award from deputy military attaché from the Royal Thai Army, the Royal Thai Navy, and the Royal Thai Air Force respectively.

The Labour Day Ceremony was the result of cooperation between Office of Labour Affiars and various agencies from Royal Thai Embassy, particularly the consular section and Office of Commercial Affairs, and Office of Tourism Authority of Thailand in Kuala Lumpur. The consular section helped to send the footsall teams to join the competition and arranged officers for the counseling service. It also helped to spread message about voting outside the Kingdom to Thai workers. Furthermore, Deputy military attaché from the Three Army helped to arrange for the footsall tournament awards.

The 2011 Labour Day Ceremony was successfully organized. It drew over 600 participants to the event including the athletes and supporters. The event was full of fun. It helped promote solidarity among Thai workers and boost their morale to work. Furthermore, it helped to foster the network of Thai people living aboard and promote good relations among, employees, employers and Thai civil servants.
