Permanent Secretary of Labour Joins 337th Session of the Governing Body in Geneva

            On November 4, 2019, the Permanent Secretary of Labour and delegation attended the 337th session of the Governing Body at the International Labour Organization headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland. The Permanent Secretary of the Labour issued a statement on behalf of ASEAN parties entitled “The agenda of the Annual International Labour Organization’s Conference (ILC) to be held in the future” which the ASEAN Member States attach great importance and agree to support. “Life Long Learning” will be a general discussion agenda at the 109th ILC meeting in 2020, as global changes in the working world has resulted in challenges in learning and skill development, which is essential to the future for the reform of the workforce.

 



            On this occasion, the Permanent Secretary of Labour had a discussion with the ILO’s Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific Ms. Tomoko Nishimoto, about the organization of the Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM), which Singapore will host around April 2021. He also gave notice that both ILO offices at the United Nations Building in Bangkok are closed for repairs. As a result, ILO officials can work from home and a temporary office has been established on the 18th floor of the Park Ventures ECOPLEX on Wireless Road from October 29, 2019 until further notice.
            On the same day, the Permanent Secretary of Labour attended the meeting of government groups in Asia and the Pacific, and the government sector meetings. Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol’s attendance of the Governing Body session, follows Thailand’s international obligations as a regular member of the Council, which is the highest executive committee of the International Labour Organization. Participation further promotes Thailand on the global stage as an ASEAN chairman, including countries that have administrative roles and have the authority to set policies and the direction of work for the organization.
