The Inspector-General of MOL undertook the inspection of the Office of Labour Affairs in Singapore.

            During 25-27 May, 2011 Inspector-General of MOL (Mrs. Pranin Muttaharach), together with the team consisting of Inspector-General of Department of Labour Protection and Welfare (Mrs. Plernpit Wittayaudom), Inspector-General of Department of Employment (Mrs. Pornpan Tayatham), and the Director of Inspection Bureau (Mrs. Lakkana Boonsanong) went to visit and inspect Office of Labour Affairs at Singapore.

 

             On their visit, the Inspector-General of MOL and team had paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Thailand to Singapore (H.E. Mr. Nopadol Gunavibool) and discussed on government affairs’ issues as well as asking for the collaboration regarding the upcoming election outside the Kingdom.

 

            According to the visit, Office of Labour Affairs in Singapore had briefed the situation of Thai labour in Singapore, its performance according to KPI, problems and obstacles as well as the solution. In this regard, the Office was received recommendations from the inspector’s group and afterward,     the visiting group went to visit Thai workers in Singapore as described below;
 

         (1) Visit Takaneka’s work site at Changi airport; there are approximately 200 Thai workers

           (2) Visit Murai Lodge 2 which is a Dormitory for foreign workers with a space for 8,000 people and currently, there are 7,820 foreign workers and the majority are workers from India and Bangladesh. On the visit, the visiting group received a welcome by approximately 100 Thai workers.
           (3) Discussion with Friends of Thai Workers Association, Labour volunteers, and the Graduates of Sukhothai Thammathirat University at Association’s workplace, the 3rd floor of Golden Mile Complex.

 

             Furthermore, Office of Labour Affairs in Singapore and the inspector group gave workers leaflet and document relating to workmen’s compensation law in case of work-related injuries, employment contract handbook, and tax refund handbook and campaign those workers who did not apply for the membership of the Fund for Assistance to Workers to Work Abroad to recognize the benefits and apply for the membership when going back for the holiday at Thailand. In addition, there was a forum for answering inquiries relating to general working problems, a renewal of employment contract, the enhancement of Thai workers’ skills and providing information relating a contact after service hours, and the location of the Office of the Association (the 3rd flood of Gloden Miles Complex Building). In case of labour consulting services, extra English and Chinese courses are needed as well as futher education with non-formal education and Sukhothai Thammathirat University, worker can contact at the Office of Association where labour volunteers are available to serve and collaborate with the Office of Labour Affairs at all time.
