Third Thai Worker Injured from Beirut Explosion is Treated and Safe

                The Ministry of Labour’s spokesperson reported that there were Thai workers injured in the explosion in Beirut, Lebanon. There was a third case reported recently, whereby the worker has been treated and sent to recover at an accommodation. Meanwhile, the Labour Ambassador has coordinated with overseas labour volunteers to organize subsistence bags to visit Thai workers.

                Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mrs. Thienrat Nawamawat, as the Ministry of Labour’s spokesperson, revealed further reports from Commander Lieutenant Vittavat Koodprasert, Minister Counselor (on Labour), in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh), where the Labour Office in Riyadh oversees Thai workers in Lebanon. The reports updated the progress from the violent explosions in Beirut, Lebanon. On August 6, an additional Thai worker was found injured. Mr. Khomsan Kajonsombat, a jewelry technician, was hit by a door that fell on his leg, causing swelling in his legs and feet. His accommodation was severely damaged. All three injured Thai workers were treated to allowed to rest until they are healed. So far, there have been three Thai workers injured from the incident.

                In addition, the incident caused Mdm. Raya Homsi, Acting Honorary Consul in Beirut, to be injured and taken to hospital. She has now returned to heal in her accommodation. She confirmed that she is still willing to assist Thais and Thai workers in Lebanon, including helping Thai workers and Thai people to return to Thailand. In the provision of assistance to Thai workers in distress many of the houses and establishments were damaged by the blast and therefore needed to be temporarily closed for repairs. In particular, establishments located in the inner district. On August 7, 2020, the Saudi Labour Office (Riyadh) coordinated with overseas labour volunteers, who are foreigners who act as a network of volunteers to inform the labour situation in Lebanon. The volunteers organized survival bags and visit the three injured Thai workers. As for other Thai workers who have suffered, the volunteers will continue their efforts.
