Labour Minister Reports Results of Policies on Managing Foreign Workers to Support the Country’s Revival After COVID-19

          On September 14, 2022, the Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin presided over the announcement of the operating results and policy direction for managing foreign workers. The Permanent Secretary of Labour, Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswon, reported the event’s objectives. The Ministry of Labour’s executives, association representatives, organizations, civil society/employers, and related agencies also participated in the event, which took place at the Ministry of Labour’s meeting room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour.           Mr. Suchart said that during the COVID-19 situation, the Ministry of Labour followed the Cabinet’s resolution on April 7, 2020, to manage the COVID-19 situation as a national agenda while the situation was ongoing and after the situation had subsided. MOL Visits Nong Khai Starting and Ending Employment Center to Create Migrant Workers’ Awareness of Welfare

          On September 7, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, reported that the Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwam, who supervises the Ministry of Labour, emphasize the equality in workers’ basic rights in Thailand, whereby Thai and foreign workers must be treated equally. The workforce is a key engine driving the country’s economic and social development. The effective management of foreign workers is in line with the labour demands of organizations and the direction of national economic development. The Ministry of Labour’s Department of Employment has established the initial recruitment and employment centers for migrant workers from Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia in three locations, including Tak, Sa Kaeo, and Nong Khai Provinces. Labour Minister Concerned for Deceived Thai Worker Abroad and Reiterates for Labour Ambassador in Abu Dhabi to Monitor Closely

          The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, spoke about the news in online media on August 26 that Mr. Prasit Sribunchan and Mr. Kobchokcheep Phosorn, Deputy Chairpersons of the Samran Subdistrict Administrative Council, Samchai District, Kalasin Province, who filed a complaint with the Kalasin Provincial Damrongtham Center, to help track down Mr. Prasit’s sister, Ms. Apinya Sribunchan, 41, back to Thailand. An agent recruited her to work in Thai massage in Dubai on July 20, 2022. She traveled with three female friends from nearby areas and eight from other provinces. She has been uncontactable for over 15 days, and there is fear that she was deceived into prostitution and unsafe. For this case, the Labour Minister received a report from Mrs. Plida Ruamkham, Ambassador Counselor (on Labour) of the Royal Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi, that Ms. Apinya traveled on a tourist visa and went to work because she believed the agency that persuaded her to work in Thai massage. Nakhon Pathom Labour Office Joins Narcotics Control Committee Meeting

          On August 16, 2022, at 09.30 hours, Nakhon Pathom Deputy Provincial Governor, Mr. Komsan Charoenaj, joined the Narcotics Control Committee Meeting No. 2/2022 (for the central provinces), which took place online on Webex Meeting. The occasion took place at the Apiromruedee Meeting Room, 4th floor, Nakhon Pathom City Hall. The Ministry of Interior’s Chief Inspector-General, Mr. Triphob Wongtrirat, chaired the meeting. The Ministry of Labour’s Inspector-General, Mr. Puma Thamakul, also joined the occasion. Chief Inspector-General Joins Subcommittee Meeting for Monitoring the Performance of Drug Prevention and Suppression in Central and Southern Provinces and Bangkok

          On August 16, 2022, at 09.30 hours, the Ministry of Labour’s Chief Inspector-General, Mr. Phuma Thammakul, joined in the monitoring and follow-up meeting of the Subcommittee for Monitoring the Performance of Drug Prevention and Suppression No. 3/2022 (central provinces) and No. 4/2565 (southern provinces and Bangkok). The meeting took place online at the Ministry of Labour Inspector-General’s office, 8th floor, Ministry of Labour.           The meeting monitored the performance according to the Narcotics Prevention and Suppression Action Plan 2022 in the central and southern provinces and Bangkok. Labour Minister Assigns Advisor to Deliver Skill Development Fund Loan for Organizations to Upskill Employees

          On July 22, 2022, the Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned the Labour Minister’s Advisor, Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, to preside over the granting of loans from the Skill Development Fund under the Skills Development Promotion Act B.E. 2545 and amendments B.E. 2557, for the 2022 fiscal year amounting to 1,000,000 Baht. Labour Minister Assigns Advisor and Spokesperson to Deliver Compensation to Support Deceased Insured Persons’ Families from Electric Cabinet Explosion in Ratchaburi

          The Labour Minister, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, assigned the Labour Minister’s Advisor, Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on Politics), Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, the Social Security Office’s Inspector-General, Ms. Wantana Natthapulawat, and heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour from Ratchaburi Province, to visit the area to deliver compensation to the family of an insured person who died from an electric cabinet explosion in Ratchaburi, at Wat Phra Sri Ar, Photharam District, Ratchaburi Province.           Mr. Suchart said that the explosion of an electric cabinet at GS Energy Co., Ltd., Ratchaburi Province, on the evening of July 16, resulted in the deaths of four employees, leaving three seriously injured. The injured employees are currently recuperating at Photharam Hospital. For the deceased employees, the Ratchaburi Provincial Social Security Office has examined the rights under the Social Security Fund and the Compensation Fund. Pattani Province Inspects Fishing Vessels to Prevent Human Trafficking Following the Action Plan for Prevention of Forced Labour or Services, and Human Trafficking in Persons in Pattani for 2022

          On Thursday, July 7, 2022, Mr. Sani Hemhim, Pattani Provincial Labour Officer and Director of the Labour Trafficking Prevention Center in Pattani Province assigned Labour Academics Mrs. Kimita Thinchim and Ms. Chayanuch Tongsrao to inspect fishing boats to prevent human trafficking following the Action Plan for Prevention of Forced Labour or Services, and Human Trafficking in Persons in Pattani Province for 2022. They jointly inspected fishing boats and workers in the fisheries sector to manage the problem of migrant workers and human trafficking in fisheries for fisheries operators to comply with relevant laws. They worked with the Pattani Marine Office for National Interest, the Pattani Marine Police, the Pattani Port Authority Office, and the Pattani Labour Protection and Welfare Office for 2022. They inspected three vessels and 52 workers in fisheries, comprising 16 Cambodian workers, 26 Myanmar workers, and 10 Thai workers. The inspection found no sign of human trafficking in the Pattani waters.

Concerned PM Assigns Labour Minister to Assist Terminated JSL Employees

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the progress in supporting employees of JSL who were terminated. Once the news was heard, the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, who oversees the Ministry of Labour, were concerned for the employees and tasked the Ministry of Labour to take care and assist the employees in receiving benefits and protection under the law. There are approximately 130 employees, comprising 70 men and 60 women. The company has announced the layoff of 89 employees, who are all monthly employees, with the termination effective on July 1.
