Content Description

On April 1, 2021, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat chaired the meeting to discuss preparing the skill development plan for people with disabilities for occupation No. 2/2021. Advisor to the Deputy Labour Minister M.L. Puntarik Smiti and Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Niyom Songkaew attended the meeting at the Pakorn Angsusingh meeting room, 10th floor, Department of Skill Development.
Prof. Narumon said that people with disabilities are not yet developed in their skills to meet the needs of the businesses due to the lack of appropriate curriculums, tools, and equipment to assist in the work that meets the type of disability and the labour database to support employment. Today’s meeting planned the skills development for people with disabilities to support their occupation, integrate government agencies, places of business, and promote self-employment. The People with Disabilities Association, companies, educational institutions, and related agencies will jointly create courses that upskill, reskill, and change skills as appropriate for each type of disability and the nature of work. The efforts will encourage people with disabilities to gain more professional skills and employment opportunities, supporting work in the modern world.
The meeting proposed an integrated plan to develop skills for people with disabilities to support their occupation, with a total of 61 projects targeting over 180,000 people. The development of people with disabilities covers three areas: skills development of people with disabilities, career and employment promotion for people with disabilities, and developing the potential of the disabled through skills competition. In addition, there are four operational driving projects for the 2021 – 2022 fiscal year, comprising of the project to develop product quality, community and promote marketing through online channels, the hops growing occupational promotion program to develop occupations for people with mobility or physical disabilities, the project to develop family skills for people with intellectual disabilities to promote their occupation and a business career promotion program for people with autism and their families. This will lead to the support and development of the potential of people with disabilities concretely.
The Deputy Labour Minister added that helping and caring for people with disabilities is not just about training and employment. CSR promotion is another important activity. There will be a press conference inviting workplaces to join CSR for people with disabilities on April 2 at the Department of Skill Development. It is expected to hold a seminar on April 22, 2021, under the title of “Enhancing Skills: Happiness for People with Disabilities.”
“Collaboration in all sectors that recognizes the potential of people with disabilities and to create opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in society equally will play a part in sustainable employment and self-employment, resulting in stable income and a better quality of life in the future,” concluded the Deputy Labour Minister.
