Deputy Labour Minister Gives Green Light to Two Industries to Produce Workers for S-Curve

          The Deputy Labour Minister drives two industries, including “Robots for Industry – Aviation and Logistics,” accelerating the production of workers for the target industries.

          On August 25, 2021, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat chaired the subcommittee meeting on Labour Development and Occupational Training Coordination in the S-curve Target Industries No. 4/2021 took place via video conference. The meeting monitored the performance, considered labour development, and coordinated vocational training plans in the targeted industries (2022 – 2027) for industrial robotics, aviation, and logistics industries. Advisor to the Deputy Labour Minister M.L. Puntrik Smiti, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suchart Pornchaiwisetkun and the Department of Skill Development’s Deputy Director-General of the Ms. Jiraporn Poonyarit joined the meeting, whereby the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General Mr. Tawat Benchatikul took the role as secretary of the meeting. The occasion took place at the Somchat Lekalawan Conference Room, 10th Floor, Department of Skill Development.

          Prof. Narumon said that today’s meeting drives the development plans of the two target industries that have been through the demand survey workshops and the meetings with the relevant parties. The first industry is the industrial robot industry consisting of robot manufacturers, robot users, system integrators, and automatic machine builders. The second industry is the aviation and logistics industry, comprising customer service, analysis and planning, warehousing and distribution, purchasing and procurement, logistics technology, and transportation. It will appoint a working group to drive and coordinate with relevant agencies, including those that operate for new skills, upskilling, re-skilling, and training units to operate efficiently and offer sustainable benefits to workers.

          The meeting agreed with the said labour development plan. It proposed some observations from the subcommittee to update the information to be complete and beneficial to the plan’s implementation. It also proposed to review the annual number of labour demand data from relevant sectors to lead to the development of labour following the needs of the labour market.

          “Although the situation of COVID-19 continues to spread, the workforce still needs to be developed, to upgrade worker skills to become quality workers and encompass the skills in line with changing technology. There are also opportunities for immediate occupation following the demand of labour markets,” concluded the Deputy Labour Minister.
