Deputy Labour Minister Promotes Potential and Sustainable Career Opportunities for People with Disabilities

          On March 26, 2021, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Advisor to the Deputy Labour Minister M.L. Puntarik Smiti, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Ms. Aumpun Thuvavit, and the committee visited the Redeemer’s Foundation for the Development of Persons with Disabilities, including the 1479 Hotline for People with Disabilities, the Social Business Development Center, Father Ray’s Special School, Flash Home Center, Father Ray’s Special Children’s School, rooms and conference centers of the Redeemer and the Pattaya Redemptorist Technology College to encourage students and staff of the foundation. They also joined the opening of the Thai Watsadu Call Center at the Redemptorist Foundation for the Development of Persons with Disabilities in Chonburi.

          Prof. Narumon said that the Redemptorist Foundation for the Development of Persons with Disabilities is a leading international organization for people with disabilities. It has experience in providing education for people with disabilities to promote decent work, with a proven track record in education management, vocational training, employment services, and campaigns on access to the rights and welfare of people with disabilities. In addition, there is a Pracharat hotline service for the disabled, television production, media, and public relations activities. This reflects greater opportunities for people with disabilities to play a role and participate in society, promoting acceptance for the potential of people with disabilities. This is due to the cooperation of the public sector, the private sector, and civil society that continuously drives collaboration.

          The Deputy Labour Minister added that the opening of the Thai Watsadu Call Center for People with Disabilities today is another channel to promote employment for people with disabilities. It is an opportunity to raise the level of work and coordinate cooperation in the sustainable development of the quality of life for people with disabilities. The Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development is ready to take part in vocational skills training for people with disabilities to contribute to society’s acceptance and have a safe and sustainable lifestyle. It develops courses following the needs of the labour market, which is suitable for all target groups to promote skills that can be used to pursue a career, to have a job, and a sustainable income.
“People with disabilities are another group that has an important role and has sufficient potential to enhance the country’s fundamental economic development. Thank you to the relevant agencies from all sectors who have taken part in promoting opportunities for people with disabilities to have access to all occupations. This effort reflects the potential of people with disabilities to be accepted in the society, equivalent to that of normal people,” concluded the Deputy Labour Minister.
