Deputy Labour Minister Promotes Technicians in Nakhon Si Thammarat Towards Skills Certification

            On September 25, 2020, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat assigned the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General Mr. Tawat Benchatikul, to commence the professional technician preparation project towards the certification of knowledge and ability. The event was organized by Nakhon Si Thammarat Skill Development Institute 22 at Kaew Kalaya Grand Ballroom, Ligor City Hotel, Nakhon Si Thammarat.

                The Department of Skill Development’s Director-General Mr. Tawat Benchatikul said that Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumol Pinyosinwat prioritizes the development of skills to upgrade the Ministry of Labour to become a Ministry of Economy under the concept of “create, elevate and give; unite Thailand to build a nation.” The concept is in response to the government’s policy under Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha. The Ministry of Labour has a mission to create a workforce that responds to the industrial sector’s needs through cooperation with all relevant sectors. Preparing professional technicians towards certification of knowledge and skills is a pilot program in 12 provinces. On this occasion, it was held in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province by the Nakhon Si Thammarat Skill Development Institute 22, to promote public relations among all sectors, including employers, workers, professionals, the public, and consumers, to recognize the importance of knowledge and capability certification. The certification will receive good quality service and protection for the safety of life and property that may be hazardous from work.

                Nakhon Si Thammarat focuses on tourism promotion. Therefore, the project’s implementation to develop skills undertaken by the Nakhon Si Thammarat Skill Development Institute 22 aims to develop skills for workers in the tourism and hospitality sectors. The skills include English for communication, Mandarin for hospitality services, hot oil compress massage, and makeup techniques, to promote tourism-related businesses. In addition, skills are developed for informal workers to promote career opportunities such as training for the elderly in Batik fabric painting, making woven products from synthetic fibers, and the making of tie-dye cloth. The course provides access to career opportunities of all worker groups, in line with the Deputy Labour Minister’s guidelines on offering opportunities for vulnerable groups too.

                Activities within the event today including a discussion on the topic of “preparation of professional technicians towards the certification of knowledge and ability” by representatives of the Office of Labour Standards Development and Skils Assessments, Office of the Knowledge and Competence Certification, Chairman of the Industry Association in Nakhon Si Thammarat province and Chairman of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Chamber of Commerce. There were exhibitions and various agency activities, including company exhibitions by Inter Far East Wind International Co., Ltd. and Eminent Air (Thailand) Co., Ltd. There was a product showcase by groups of trained people from Nakhon Ratchasima Office of Skill Development, consisting of basketry products from the Lipao area, batik products, batik fabric painting products, tie-dye products, and products from coconut shells, including the dissemination of skills development missions for workers in Nakhon Si Thammarat.
