The Deputy Labour Minister visited Khon Kaen to motivate labour volunteers to build quality workers, integrating the seven labour leaders to drive labour agendas under the concept of “Create, elevate and give; uniting Thailand to build a nation” to raise the Thai economy.
On December 21, 2020, Deputy Labour Minister Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat visited the area to follow up on results in Khon Kaen. She met with volunteers who attended the anti-drug labour volunteer project at the Charoen Thani Hotel, Khon Kaen. The Department of Skill Development’s Inspector-General and heads of government agencies in Khon Kaen welcomed the visiting committee.
Prof. Narumon said to the labour volunteers that “Labour volunteers play an important role, serving as a medium for coordination between the Ministry of Labour and people in the area, who are closer to the communities than the government officials. The community also trusts labour volunteers, so people or workers will be informed about government missions or services. Therefore, it requires labour volunteers to act as a listener for troubles in the area and notify the responsible agency to acknowledge the problem to find a solution. Labour volunteers are representatives for both the government and the public. Today, the Ministry of Labour organized a seminar to become a network to prevent and solve drug problems in both the community and business establishments.
“Another issue for labour volunteers is to help public relations for skill development. The Department of Skill Development has units located in every province to provide services and help workers looking for knowledge and a career, especially those who have the state welfare card. I ask that labour volunteers to survey and select workers who truly want to be helped, to support them in becoming qualified workers who can bring the knowledge to work and continue to earn income to take care of themselves and their families,” concluded the Deputy Labour Minister.
From there, the Deputy Labour Minister and committee visited the Khon Kaen Worker Rehabilitation Center, Region 4. From listening to the center’s performance, it was found that the center is well equipped with personnel and tools in medical treatment and rehabilitation. Those who are undergoing rehabilitation will receive close supervision and have independent vocational training to be able to return to their normal work or pursue other occupations. In the past, workers in rehabilitation were employees who had suffered accidents and dismemberment due to work. But in the future, it will drive groups of people with disabilities who are not injured, workers. There is also an opportunity for rehabilitation in the center to provide opportunities for people to access public services thoroughly.
From the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, many companies have implemented more stringent screening for foreign workers. On this visit, the Deputy Labour Minister led a team to visit the Dechapanich Weaving Factory Co., Ltd., which has approximately 1,172 foreign workers. She emphasized strict compliance with anti-pandemic measures. They then visited the Khon Kaen Skill Development Institute 6 to observe training for work preparation, including Thai cooking, motorcycle mechanics, and auto mechanic. All three courses have a two-month training period with a one-month training in the workplace. She also listened to the performance of driving labour agendas.
Deputy Labour Minister stressed strong integration and collaboration. Each unit has related missions in skill development, which requires coordination with the Employment Office and the Northeastern Labour Market Information Center to look at job positions to find jobs and provide trainees with a career path. For the Social Security Office, Labour Protection and Welfare Office, and rehabilitation center, she requested full services to be provided to the people, as the public sector is the refuge of the people with provincial workers as the center and mentors. In addition, she asked agencies to work with other agencies and the private sector to become more involved in the Ministry of Labour’s work, following government policy in the form of civil a state.
