The Labour Minister commenced a forum for the Social Security Symposium 2020 to exchange ideas on “Moving Toward a New Normal: Driving Towards a New Way of Life,” helping companies and workers affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
On November 27, 2020, at 13.30 hours, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin presided over the opening ceremony of the 15th Annual Social Security Symposium in 2020 under the theme of “Moving Toward a New Normal: Driving Towards a New Way of Life.” The event presented a plaque for excellent services from surveying service recipients’ satisfaction with the Social Security Office in 2020. Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol and the Ministry of Labour’s senior management attended the meeting at Miracle Grand Convention Hotel Bangkok.
The Labour Minister said that the government, under the leadership of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, which supervises the Ministry of Labour, is focused on the importance of driving the country after the Covid-19 pandemic fades. The government has implemented the “Reuniting Thailand to Build a Nation” policy, along with approaches in adjusting to the “New Normal,” to help the workforce and businesses impacted by Covid-19 preventive measures, which forced them to cease their activities, schools that had to stop teaching, and social distancing, as well as working from home. The Social Security Office is an important government agency that supports the mission of helping affected companies and insured persons, which has included a reduction in contribution rates, increasing unemployment benefits (62 percent of pay), and promoting the lending of low-interest loans to companies.
The Social Security Symposium, this time, provides knowledge, creates understanding, and prepares insured persons, employers, and executives under the Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office will be representatives in providing knowledge about the physical, mental, and financial health. It is also a good opportunity to gain experience in preventing and solving problems in facing a crisis and dealing with ways of doing business and changes in the ways of living. The event also includes sharing the opinions of academics and experts. The main stakeholders are employees, employers, and the government sector. The event has also organized educational exhibitions on the theme, showcasing business processes and knowledge, competencies, and skills in new normal, and valuable content from the discussion on “Inviting each other to think about … Social Security” to be used in the “step into a new way of life” guidelines for creating a good quality of life for insured persons. The occasion is centered on sharing knowledge and experience, which be used to work together to make the most of the situation, concluded Mr. Suchart.
