Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin joined the Human Trafficking Prevention and Suppression Committee meeting and a meeting of the Coordination and Compliance Committee on the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking, aiming to drive policies to sustainably prevent labour trafficking.
On December 16, 2020, at 09.30 hours, Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan presided over the 4th meeting of the Human Trafficking Prevention and Suppression Committee and the Coordination and Compliance Committee on the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking No.3/2020. Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin and Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol joined the meeting at the Vijitwathakan meeting room, 3rd floor, Office Building of the National Security Council, Government Houses.
The meeting acknowledged the Joint Thailand-United States Anti-Trafficking Subcommittee’s performance and the drive to improve efficiency in solving sustainable human trafficking issues. It also covered the drive of the ASEAN-Australia Program to Fight Human Trafficking and progress on establishing the Thailand Internet Crimes Against Children (TICAC) Working Group, as a permanent agency in the High-Tech Crime Division, and an online media production project to campaign against sexual exploitation. The committee also considered and approved several important matters, such as the draft report on the performance of the prevention and suppression of human trafficking in Thailand for 2020 and revising the order to appoint a subcommittee according to the committee meeting No. 3/2020.
The Labor Minister said the government, led by Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, is focused on driving Thailand’s anti-human trafficking operation to its Tier 1 goal. The Ministry of Labour, under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, sees the importance of driving the said policy with a national committee gathering opinions, measures, and implementing various guidelines in all aspects of human trafficking. It aims to determine the direction in promoting and protecting labour rights of all nationalities equally. The Ministry of Labour and related agencies are determined to continue to drive operations and the development of officials under the Ministry of Labour to be proactive in the area, able to reach victims and prosecute offenders of forced labour and human trafficking, as well as increasing efforts for workers of all nationalities to be protected and continue to be protected by legal benefits.
