Labour Minister Pushes Thai Labour Agenda on ILO Stage: Endorses Budget Resolution, Directs Thai Delegation to Advance Labour Rights to International Standards

June 9, 2025, 18.00 hours local time, Geneva, Switzerland – Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Labour, took part in a key mission at the 113th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC), the world’s leading tripartite labour forum. He witnessed Thailand’s official vote, represented by Mr. Boonsong Thapchaiyut, Permanent Secretary of Labour, and Mr. Sakdinart Sonthisakyotin, Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour, who cast a vote on behalf of the government to approve the ILO’s work plan and budget. Also attending were Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, Director-General of the Department of Employment, Mr. Decha Pruksapatnarak, Director-General of the Department of Skill Development, Lieutenant Commander Saroj Khomkhai, the Director-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, and Mrs. Marasri Jairangsi, the Secretary-General of the Social Security Office,

Mr. Phiphat stated that key resolutions included approval of the 2026–2027 programme and budget, which prioritises international labour standards, the tripartite system, full and productive employment, sustainable enterprises, gender equality, equal opportunities, social protection, and digital transformation. The conference also endorsed the membership fee rates for the period.

Mr. Boonsong concluded by saying that this vote reflects Thailand’s constructive role in shaping the governance and transparency of global labour resource management, benefiting workers worldwide, including Thai workers both domestically and abroad.

Later, at 18.30 hours, Mr. Phiphat met with the Thai delegation at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations in Geneva, delivering policy guidance. He stressed the importance of Thailand’s role on the international stage in the areas of labour rights, skills development, and social security, ensuring Thai workers can adapt to changes such as AI, demographic shifts, and new forms of employment.

This policy briefing underscores the Thai government’s commitment to advancing the “Quality Thai Workforce” agenda and achieving international recognition while encouraging unity and cohesion among all members of the Thai delegation.

On this occasion, Ms. Prarthana Ditsayatat, Deputy Permanent Representative of Thailand to the UN in Geneva, warmly welcomed the minister and delegation to strengthen cooperation between Thai agencies at home and abroad. This mission marks an important starting point for advancing Thailand’s tripartite labour agenda on the global stage in 2025, as the Ministry of Labour continues to work closely with international partners to enhance the quality of life for Thai workers stably and sustainably.
