Labour Minister Welcomes 18th Advisory Council for National Labour Development

          On July 30, 2019, at 14.30 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul alongside Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol welcomed President of the 18th Advisory Council for National Labour Development Mr. Thavorn Chalatthien and committee, on courtesy call and introduction at the Command Center Room, 5th Floor, Ministry of Labour. Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul thanked the Advisory Council for National Labour Development for providing cooperation in driving the Ministry of Labour’s operations, whereby the ministry is committed to ensure the workforce is stable and has a good quality of life following the 20-year national strategy. Furthermore, there are guidelines for operation as follows: 1) Professional quality and workforce development to support the 4.0 industry by raising the level of workers’ skills to be super workers in 10 industrial groups 2) Professional skills development at all ages by providing education and career guidance systems for students to test their professional aptitude and prepare for the labour market 3) Boost workforce potential by raising the first wage income and the wage adjustment mechanism to be consistent with the workforce performance 4) PrepareThai people for the 21st century so that people in the organization can adjust themselves to learn new things and work effectively 5) Develop the public services by aiming to become a transparent and verifiable digital government, adopting technology to serve the people.

 

 

          In addition, the Advisory Council suggested specific actions, including 1) Considering the establishment of the Institute for Potential Development and Smart Labour Skills 2) Considering the establishment of a committee to resolve the imbalance of supply and demand for employment 3) Resolving the short-term shortage of professional, vocational and technical workers 4) Establishment of a monitoring center for the impact caused by disruptive technology to act as a surveillance, follow up, solve problems and care for vulnerable groups of workers 5) The Ministry of Labour as the main host for national labour force planning 6) Considering the establishment of the National Big Data Labour Information Center 7) Requesting to upgrade the Ministry of Labour’s Labour Economics Office in order to set the context to drive the workforce to the economy of the future 8) Improve laws related to labour to keep up with new technology and careers, with the establishment of a subcommittee to study the employment pattern of the 21st century which will involve more robots or advanced technology.
