Content Description

Prof. Dr. Jak gave support to those affected by the Covid-19 virus outbreak in vocational skills development for farmers in Phitsanulok province, in a professional tractor driving program.

On July 1, 2020, at 08.30 hours, Advisor to the Labour Minister Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jak Punchoopet chaired the training program for vocational skills development for farmers, to help those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The training was held in the professional tractor driving branch. He said the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development, Phitsanulok Skill Development Institute 9 in collaboration with Siam Kubota Corporation Limited, considered Phitsanulok province as a representative to commence a vocational skills development program for farmers. The training aims to help those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and develop workers in agriculture to have the knowledge and skills to meet tractor driving standards to make a career, which leads to the promotion of agricultural careers and development of farmers to have a stable career sustainably. Nowadays, the agricultural occupation of Thai farmers has changed from the past. Previously, the use of land in the area was low and farmers work tirelessly to receive low income which reduced living standards. Since then, new technology has been introduced to help save energy and increase production capability. Therefore, farmers who previously produced for family consumption have expanded to production for sale or for the industries. Many Thai farmers are engaged in commercial agriculture and the tendency to use agricultural machinery in Thailand has increased in many areas.

The use of suitable agricultural machinery, both in technology and efficiency in agriculture is an important factor in expanding production capacity, reducing production costs and shortening planting time. In addition, it increases production capacity and reduces costs. Appropriate use of agricultural machinery also reduces labour and helps increase productivity.

On June 5, 2020, the Department of Skill Development and Siam Kubota Corporation Limited signed a memorandum of cooperation under the Skill Development Program for farmers, to provide support during theCovid-19 period. The program offers four courses, including tractor driving, combine harvesting, small excavator driving and driving in rice fields.
