MOL and ETDA Jointly Create E-Commerce Syllabus to Drive the Digital Economy

Content Description

Prof. Narumon gave the green light to the e-commerce syllabus, providing the DSD and the ETDA to drive the digital economy, emphasizing all labour groups as an important mechanism for sustainable national development.
On October 19, 2020, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat reported that the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development has the idea to cooperate with all network partners, to work in the service of the people, and drive foundational economic policy under the leadership of Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan’s who oversees the Ministry of Labour. The policies have continually emphasized care for Thai workers laid off from the Covid-19 situation, where some formal workers have become informal. The policies further emphasize that occupations drive the community economy; therefore, skill development can lead to self-employment, which can help equip such workers. The Prime Minister and General Prawit have repeatedly emphasized that the Ministry of Labour drives the economy’s foundation but cannot do so as one sole ministry; there must be cooperation with everyone, including network party agencies that can help the people. Today is a good opportunity to join forces once again, and she thanked everyone who has come together to promote employment among the Thai population.
The Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society by the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) and network partners will work together to help community enterprises, small entrepreneurs, informal workers, and unemployed people who are interested in doing business or selling products online. The training will educate participants about increasing product value and online distribution channels and educate small entrepreneurs in the community about online media production techniques to create awareness and increase channels for the public to access services under the concept of an e-Commerce Nation.
Prof. Narumon further stated that the ETDA had developed e-commerce courses and Internet For Better Life (IFBL) to provide communities such as community enterprise members, community groups, and cooperative member groups, to have fully integrated e-commerce knowledge, pushing communities to use online tools and technology to communicate with target audiences. The courses aim to promote community products and to be sold on online platforms to generate income for households and strengthen the workforce for both new graduates and the unemployed to have the knowledge to solve community problems, as a guideline for a sustainable occupation.
The ETDA will gather staff and experts, including basic equipment for digital training courses for community economic development, to train over 1,000 people. It will train batches of 20 people through a 12-hour short course with training content on how to create content, sell, and practice selling online for community enterprises. The longer courses take 45 hours, with an introduction to e-commerce, online sales laws, basic business planning, analysis of consumer behaviour and target customers, product design, marketing strategy, sales channels, logistical systems, as well as e-Payment systems. Interested parties can contact the Department of Skill Development for more information by calling the Ministry of Labour’s 1506 Hotline, press 4.
