MOL Joins Large Private Sector Company to Deploy Skill Welders to Work in Saudi Arabia with the First Batch Traveling this June

          On May 25, 2022, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin welcomed Mr. Chalermchai Mahagitsiri, Chief Executive Officer of Mermaid Subsea Services (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and delegation, along with representatives of the Export-Import Bank of Thailand or EXIM Bank on the occasion of meeting the Labour Minister to discuss ways to support and prepare the workforce, to develop skills to meet the needs of Saudi Arabian employers and enterprises. It discussed the issue of government cooperation in recruiting workers to develop workmanship, job requirements, and readiness of enterprises in Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, the Department of Employment’s Director-General, Mr. Pairoj Chotiksetian, the Department of Skill Development’s Director-General, Mr. Prateep Songlamyong, along with the Ministry of Labour’s senior executives attended the meeting at the Chatumongkol Room, 6th floor, Ministry of Labour.
          Mr. Suchart said that the Ministry of Labour thanks Mermaid Subsea Services (Thailand) Co. Ltd., a large construction operator specializing in marine and coastal oil and gas industries in Saudi Arabia and the Arab countries, for today’s discussion. The session allowed for exchanging information on readiness for cooperation in supporting government policies in sending Thai workers to work in Saudi Arabia. The company has been doing business in Saudi Arabia for over ten years. It has the expertise and readiness to coordinate with relevant agencies in Saudi Arabia. Positions required at the company include engineers and welders in the offshore and offshore oil and gas sectors. From the discussions, the company plans to hire skilled Thai workers in the positions of engineers, welders, and underwater robot operators. Initially, it will be divided into three phases. The first batch of Thai workers will be sent to work in Saudi Arabia in June 2022 in the position of about 50-60 welders. The Ministry of Labour has announced the recruitment and selection of Thai workers who have already shown interest. For the middle term, it will work with the Department of Skill Development to develop Thai labour skills for welders. It will use the institute’s skills training and assessment facility for the national skill standard for engineers, welders, and underwater robot operators. Additionally, it will jointly develop skills for Thai workers to meet the needs of Saudi Arabia and Arab countries.
