MOL Joins Ministry of Digital Economy and Society in Promoting Cooperation in the Labour Economy

                The Ministry of Labour together with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the promotion of human resource development in the analysis and utilization of big data in labour. The partnership aims to develop academic cooperation and use economic labour data to make policy decisions.

                On February 19, 2020, at 13.00 hours, Labour Minister M.R. Chatumongol Sonakul and Minister of Digital Economy and Society Mr. Putthiphong Punnakan, presided over the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Cooperation on the promotion of human resource development in the analysis and utilization of big data in labour. The goal is to develop academic cooperation in improving the potential of labour and capability of the Ministry of Labour, in bringing economic and labour information to policy decisions based on empirical evidence. Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol and Permanent Secretary of Digital Economy and Society Ms. Atcharin Pattanaphanchai were representatives in signing the Memorandum of Cooperation at Meeting Room 707 A, 7th floor, Office of Digital Economy Promotion (DEPA).

                The Labour Minister said that the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Labour and Ministry of Digital Economy and Society is supported by the Government Big Data Institute (GBDi). It aims to jointly create and develop a network of data analysis personnel to develop the government to be an intelligent organization to develop a data management life cycle. Its goal is to increase efficiency in the analysis and use of labour and economic data to create value in national development towards stability, prosperity, and sustainability. The initiative is towards evidence-based decisions and the creation of innovative public services that meet the needs of the people and all sectors. The Ministry of Labour will allow the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, by the GBDi, to reveal use cases that are jointly implemented with the Ministry of Labour to the public, as an example to other government agencies. This will be the starting point of the academic cooperation of both agencies to upgrade the labour potential.

                The Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol said that the Ministry of Labour is an agency with a mission related to labour management, which is central to national development. It sees the importance of using the information as a tool for policy determination and various measures to develop the potential of labour to keep up with the changes of technology and innovation in today’s world. Therefore, the development of information database management, including the development of the potential of the workers involved in the analysis of relevant data in all dimensions of the working world is key, whether it is forecasts of the labour market trends, demand analysis, labour supply, employment conditions, wages, collateral, and protection. Therefore, he said it is necessary to operate the Ministry of Labour on an evidence-based basis.
