On November 5, 2020, at 22.30 hours in Thai time, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol as the head of the Thai delegation, along with Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour Ms. Pattraporn Samatrat and a representative from the Office of International Cooperation, Department of Employment, Department of Skill Development and the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, participated in the 340th Session of the International Labour Organization Governing Body, through video conference. The Session is held between November 2 – 14, 2020.
The Permanent Secretary of Labour made a statement on behalf of the ASEAN region on the “Additional Report No. 6 of the International Labour Organization Director-General, regarding the ILO’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic”. He commended the International Labour Organization for providing information on the impact of the crisis on the global and regional labour markets, including the impact on each type of work and how urgently handle the situation. The Special ASEAN Summit on Coronavirus Disease 2019 was adopted on April 14, 2020, and ASEAN will consider action plans for the ASEAN Comprehensive Restoration Framework at the 37th ASEAN Leadership Summit on November 13-15, 2020.
In addition, the Permanent Secretary of Labour confirmed that ASEAN has a common mission to implement policies on the mitigation of the socio-economic impacts of the Covid-19 outbreak, and expressed readiness to work with the International Labour Organization in recovering from the effects of the pandemic and prepare to face other crisis’s that may arise in the future.
