MOL Spokesperson Reveals Remedies for 9 Business Types in 10 Provinces to Support Workforce and Business Recovery

Content Description

On July 15, 2021, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, spoke about the Cabinet’s resolution on July 12, 2021, approving measures to heal employers and insured persons, including independent workers affected by the government’s measures in the highest controlled areas in the ten provinces, namely Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, and Songkhla for one month. The types of business that have been provided with assistance have expanded from the original four fields, namely construction, accommodation and food services, art activities, entertainment and recreation, and other service activities, to nine branches, with the addition of transportation and storage, wholesale and retail, automotive repair, administrative and support activities, professional activities in science and academia, and information and communication activities.
The assistance is as follows: 1) Section 33 employees are paid 50 percent of their daily wages, up to 7,500 Baht. Thai nationals are paid an additional 2,500 Baht per person, not exceeding 10,000 Baht. 2) Employers under Section 33 are paid 3,000 Baht per employee, up to 200 employees. 3) Insured persons under sections 39 and 40 are paid 5,000 Baht per person. 4) Independent workers who are not insured and not in the social security system must register under Section 40 within July 2021 to receive 5,000 Baht. 5) Employers with employees who are not in the social security system must register under Section 33 by July 2021 to receive subsidies according to employee and employer remedies under Section 33 and businesses under five categories in the “pao tang” system, the “half each” program and the “we win” program. Employees must register under Section 33 within July to receive subsidies according to the five categories in the “pao tang” system, the “half each” program, and the “we win” program. Those who do not have employees must register as an insured person under Section 40 within July to receive a subsidy of 5,000 Baht.
To heal both employers and insured persons, the Social Security Office has been allocated a budget from the government. Once it verifies that the information is correct and complete, it will transfer money to the bank accounts via PromptPay, using the personal identification number for insured persons under Section 33, 39, and 40, including employers in sole proprietorship businesses whose names are specified in the commercial registration. The Ministry of Labour’s spokesperson encouraged people to link their accounts with their identification numbers. For employers with corporate status, the Social Security Office will transfer the money to the bank account in the juristic person’s name that has registered the employer with the Social Security Office.
“In this regard, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin is concerned about the workforce and businesses affected by government measures. Therefore, the Social Security Office has been instructed to meet with the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDB) and related agencies to expedite the completion of the details and propose to the Cabinet next week to continue to implement such measures,” concluded Mrs. Theanrat.
