Content Description

The Deputy Labour Minister raised the concept of promoting the Ministry of Labor to become a “Ministry of Economy” with three principles “Create – Raise – Promote the Unity of Thailand to Build a Nation.” Efforts will include promoting safety at work following government administration principles led by Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha.

On August 28, 2020, at 10.00 hours, Deputy Labour Minister Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat delivered the Ministry of Labour policies and operational guidelines for 2021 at the Jompol P. Pibulsongkram meeting room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour. The occasion presented the policy for skill development and promotion, and health safety, saying that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha, has placed great focus on government administration with 12 key policies and 12 urgent policies. The Ministry of Labour, under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, is an important ministry to the security, economy, and society of the nation, working to quickly resolve issues that arise, to meet workforce needs and to continue to create sustainability.

The Deputy Labour Minister added that policies presented this time aim to prepare workers affected by the Covid-19, which will impact the long-term quality of life of workers and their families. The policies aim to support such workers to survive amid the crisis by having a career and a sustainable income. The Ministry of Labour strives to promote a quality workforce and a safe environment to work in, which requires intensive proactive measures. This will promote the Ministry of Labour from being a “Ministry of Social Affairs” to “be a Ministry of Economy.”

For skill development policies to raise the level of the Ministry of Labour to a Ministry of Economy under the concept of three principles “Create – Raise – Promote the Unity of Thailand to Build a Nation,” the policy focuses on working in the new normal by listening to opinions and needs of all sectors. There will be combined cooperation between departments in the ministry that has a mission to link together and integrate with the public and private sectors with the following three principles: 1. Build a quality workforce with the preparation of skills and knowledge to support the EEC special economic zone, S-Curve industries, and high-tech industries. 2. To raise labour quality and economy by raising the workforce’s level to have the knowledge and skills that meet the needs of the labour market and meet labour skill standards to receive a higher wage following the skill standards. This leads to the recognition of knowledge and competence in dangerous occupations to the public, and 3. Promote, namely, among socially vulnerable workers, the access to skill development by preparing workers affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and economic crisis, increasing career opportunities to promote the ability to compete in the world market to survive amid a crisis. This will promote workers to have a career and a sustainable income, which will improve their quality of life in the long-term, for the workers themselves and their families.

“To achieve success effectively and efficiently will require cooperation and collaboration among all sectors. The DSD has integrated skill development efforts with government agencies, private sectors, educational institutions, councils, associations, and occupational organizations, including the Institute for the Thailand Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, to adjust operations and duties following the current situation. The adjustments will ensure efforts meet the needs of the current and future industry directions and enhance safety in the workforce,” Prof. Narumon concluded.
