Labour Minister Joins PM Delegation to Meet with Saudi Arabia and Discuss High Demands for Skilled Workers

            On January 25, 2022, at 16.00 hours, according to the local time in Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin joined the delegation of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha. Both parties normalized relations between the two kingdoms. They stressed the importance of promoting friendly relations and opening a new era of relations between Thailand and Saudi Arabia. Thailand attaches great importance to friendly relations with Saudi Arabia. Thailand and Saudi Arabia considered cooperation and mutual intentions to restore friendship and friendly relations, including completely normalizing diplomatic relations. This historic achievement results from a long-standing effort at various levels by both parties to restore trust and friendly relations between them.           On January 26, 2022, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned the Labour Minister’s Advisor, Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, and the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Thienrat Navamawat, to visit the area meet insured persons with disabilities in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.           On January 17, 2022, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong joined the Sustainable Development (SD) Board of Director’s Meeting No. 1/2022 via the electronic system at the Permanent Secretary of Labour’s Meeting Room, 7th Floor, Ministry of Labour. The meeting monitored the progress of the mission-driven action of the responsible agencies and coordinated the principles of driving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets. It also acknowledged the implementation of Thailand’s SDG Roadmap, the Voluntary National Review (VNR) 2021, considered improvements to sub-committees and working groups under the Sustainable Development Committee, including guidelines for driving the country’s sustainable development goals in the next phase. Labour Minister Joins as Witness in Sending-Receiving Some Part of the “Benjakitti” Forest Part Phases 2 & 3 to Add More Green Areas in Bangkok City

          Today (December 17, 2021) at 09.00 hours, Prime Minister and Minister of Defence General Prayuth Chan-ocha and Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin joined as witnesses the signing of the memorandum of handing over some parts of the “Benjakitti” forest park phase 2 and 3, between the Royal Thai Army and the Treasury Department, and the Treasury Department and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. The Royal Thai Army has completed the construction of construction site one, which has an area of approximately 160 rai, one ngan, 76 square wa. PM Shows Concern for The One Insurance Employee and Assigned Labour Minister and SSO to Provide Full Remedies

          Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin spoke about the event that appeared in the news about the Ministry of Finance ordering the revocation of the company’s non-life insurance business license from The One Insurance Public Company Limited and that the company is preparing to lay off over 300 employees in all branches across the country. In this regard, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense General Prayut Chan-ocha have expressed concern for the employees of the said company and instructed the Ministry of Labour to take care of the employees to receive benefits and protection under the law. Therefore, he ordered the Bangkok Social Security Office Area 3 to urgently examine the information at the head office of The One Insurance Public Company Limited to listen to employees’ issues and clarify the benefits that employees will receive from being laid off. MOL Receives Letter from Brilliant Alliance Thai Global Employee Representative Group Following Business Closure

          On December 16, 2021, at 11.00 hours, the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare’s Deputy Director-General, Mr. Wannarat Srisuksai, received a letter from the representative employee group of Brilliant Alliance Thai Global Co., Ltd. to follow up on the progress of the amendment to the employee benefits payment regulations and the payment schedule for the compensation fund. The group had applied for government assistance as the company had closed the business. The issues presented included following up on the progress and the payment schedule for the Employee Welfare Fund and compensation amounting to 242,689,872.71 Baht. They had filed the request to the government for consideration in supporting the employees by asking the government to pay the employees first and get the money back from the employer later. The group also asked the officer to prosecute the employer to not set an example for other employers. They also followed up on the progress in considering the central budget to take care and employee benefits at 30 times the daily minimum wage before the new year. Permanent Secretary of Labour Welcomes the International Organization for Migration’s Chief of Mission

            On December 16, 2021, at 14.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Boonchob Suttamanaswong and the Ministry of Labour’s executives welcomed Ms. Géraldine Ansart, Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), on a courtesy call to the Permanent Secretary of Labour. The occasion took place over teleconference at the Prasong Rananant Meeting Room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour.             The meeting discussed and exchanged ideas and joint actions between the Ministry of Labour and the IOM to provide protection and assistance to migrant workers during and after the COVID-19 outbreak.
