MOL Joins Senior Labour Officials Meeting (SLOM)

          On September 9, 2021, at 09.00 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol assigned Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of Labour, Ms. Pattraporn Samantarat, to join the 17th Senior Labour Officials Meeting (SLOM) via teleconference at the Prasong Rananant Meeting Room, 5th floor, Ministry of Labour. The meeting acknowledged the results of the half-plan evaluation of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Work Plan for 2016 – 2020, the results of the ASEAN Master Plan 2025, the results of the draft regional action plan for implementation on the ASEAN Declaration on Children Rights in the Context of Migration in ASEAN, the progress on the implementation of the ASEAN Qualifications Reference Framework and the draft ASEAN Declaration on Promoting Competitiveness, Resilience, and Agility of Workers for the Future of Work. PM Visits Factory Sandbox Project in Nonthaburi to Create Immunity Among Workplace Employees

          On September 10, 2021, Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha visited to follow up on the Factory Sandbox project at SB Furniture Industry Co., Ltd., Lahan Subdistrict, Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi Province. Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol, Nonthaburi Provincial Governor Mr. Suchin Chaichumsak, Executive Chairman of SB Furniture Industry Co., Ltd Mr. Saraya Chavaldit and other senior executives from the Ministry of Labour also joined the occasion. MOL Spokesperson Reports Government Process on Supporting Employment for Over 100,000 New Graduates

          On August 24, 2021, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, revealed that the COVID-19 situation from 2020 to the present had affected businesses and jobs worldwide. Thailand has been affected by employment in tourism and service businesses. Still, the manufacturing and export sectors, especially in the automotive, electronic circuit board, medical equipment, and frozen food industries, have a great demand for workers. This is because many countries are unable to export products. The government under the leadership of Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha has not been inactive. It gives great importance to workers looking for a job, especially new graduates impacted by COVID-19. Therefore, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin has ordered the Department of Employment to source vacancies from both the private and public sectors to support.           Mrs. Theanrat said that there were 575,230 new graduates in 2020, comprising 140,755 vocational certificates, 122,585 high school diplomas, and 311,890 at the bachelor’s degrees level. Labour Minister Satisfied with Overall Smooth Payment of Remedies and Urges Remaining Employees to Link PromptPay Account with ID Number

          On August 21, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin reported the transfer of remedies under relief measures for workers and companies affected by COVID-19 in the 29 highest controlled provinces. As of yesterday (August 20, 2021), two relief payments have been made. The first is remedies to Section 33 insured persons in the 16 provinces for 249,235 people. A total of 217,817 transactions were successful, accounting for 87 percent; 31,418 were unsuccessful, accounting for 13 percent. The successful transfers were valued at 544,542,500 Baht. The second payments were to employers in the 13 provinces for 16,621 establishments. A total of 16,364 transactions were successful, accounting for 98.4 percent; 257 were unsuccessful, accounting for 1.6 percent. The successful transfers were valued at 694,446,000 Baht. Labour Minister Assigns Secretariat to Receive Complains from Former Employees of Brilliant Alliance Terminated Without Compensation

          On August 18, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned the Labour Minister’s Secretariat Mr. Suthep Chitayawong, and Advisor to the Labour Minister Dr. Chamlong Chuayrod to receive complaints from former employee representatives of Brilliant Alliance Co., Ltd., in Samut Prakan, where the employer closed the business and terminated employment without compensation. The company is situated at 393 Moo 17, Bang Sao Thong District, Samut Prakan Province. The company’s business is producing women’s undergarments with 1,318 employees. Mr. Suthep said that the government is concerned about all employees in the event of layoffs due to the impact of the COVID-19. Labour Minister Delivers Consumer Goods to Din Daeng Community to Alleviate Suffering in Fight Against COVID-19

          On August 17, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin, the Ministry of Labour’s Advisor, Mrs. Thiwalrat Angkinan, the Labour Minister’s Secretariat Mr. Suthep Chitayawong, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics) Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol and the Ministry of Labour’s executives donated consumer goods that the private sector supported the Ministry of Labour with, to help people who have suffered from the impact of COVID-19 in the Din Daeng community. The donations included 1,000 bags of rice weighing 2 kilograms each, 10,000 bags of instant noodle, 5,000 cans of tuna, 10,000 chicken eggs, 2,400 bottles of drinking water, and 20 gallons of 5 liters alcohol gel bottles. MOL Foreign Workers Management Fund Committee Meets

          On August 17, 2021, at 13.30 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol chaired the Foreign Workers Management Fund Committee Meeting No. 10/2021 at the Tien Achakul Conference Room, 10th floor, Department of Employment. MOL Commences “Labour Eyes” Project to Support and Create Public Participation

          On August 17, 2021, at 08.30 hours, Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suthi Sukosol presided over the commencement of the “Labour Eyes” project to support and create public participation in anti-corruption for the first batch of participants. The occasion took place via the Zoom online platform. Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Ms. Aumpun Thuvavit and Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour Mr. Suchart Pornchaiwisetkun also joined the event. The project aims to develop skills and knowledge for the Provincial Labour Office’s civil servants/officers, anti-corruption labour volunteers, and public sector networks who have been trained in anti-corruption with the Ministry of Labour. The participants will have the ability to become a speaker to transfer knowledge and disseminate information to raise awareness of fraud and misconduct prevention, build a network for monitoring, and report corruption at the local level. Labour Minister Follows Up on Payment of Remedies to Section 33 Insured Persons in 10 Provinces Under 9 Business Types

          On August 6, 2021, at 17.00 hours, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin chaired the meeting to follow up on assistance payment to employers and employees in the ten red provinces and nine types of business via Zoom. The Labour Minister’s Secretariat Mr. Suthep Chitayawong, the Ministry of Labour’s executives and heads of government agencies under the Ministry of Labour in all ten provinces with the highest control, namely Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, and Songkhla, attended this meeting. Labour Minister Assigns Bangkok DOE Area 10 to Deliver Food and Consumer Goods to Workers in Camp Sites to Fight COVID-19

       On July 24, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned the Director of the Bangkok Employment Office Area 10, Ms. Thipawan Thongsri, to visit the area to receive food and consumables from Khun Ratcharin Somboonbodee, children, and the family of Laila, who donated dry foods, and from Khun Nantharat Thamcharoen and friends from a Facebook group who donated 330 sets of sandwiches, crackers, drinking water, sticky rice and fried pork, rice boxes, and egg snacks. The donations were made for the Ministry of Labour to deliver to the workers, to support those affected by the workers’ camp closure measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. MOL Spokesperson Confirms Payment of Remedies to Workers in Close Construction Camp Sites Following Eligibility

          On July 12, 2021, the Ministry of Labour’s Spokesperson (on politics), Mrs. Theanrat Nawamawat, spoke about the case where Mr. Chaiwat Wannakot, Secretariat and subcommittee member on the study of labour welfare, protection, and relations, wrote an article which was a compilation of information on workers’ compensation following the worker’s camp closure order. It stated that the workers’ camps are closed for 14 days, affecting 700,000 people who have not received compensation, and have not been cared for in terms of food. In this regard, she clarified that the Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office had paid compensation from force majeure due to COVID-19, at 50 percent of the wages to employees in 4 types of businesses, namely 1) Construction business. 2) Hotel and food services. 3) Entertainment and recreational arts, and 4) Other businesses that are non-construction businesses. The Social Security Office has paid unemployment benefits in case of force majeure due to COVID-19 to employees under 17,920 businesses, amounting to 87,631,033.80 Baht (as of July 12, 2021). Labour Minister Assigns DLPW Deputy Director-General to Lead Safety Network Partner in Donating Necessities to Worker Camp Sites in Petchkasem and Samut Prakarn

          On July 11, 2021, Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin assigned Deputy Director-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Mr. Wannarat Srisuksai, to work with safety network partners such as the Thai Occupational Medicine Foundation, the Bangkok Work Safety Network Club, Perfect Safety Training and Consulting Co., Ltd. and Burapha Technical Engineering PCL to visit the area to deliver 400 sets of food and necessary goods to workers and their dependents, who are in quarantine following the policy to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (Bubble and Seal). The visit took place at two construction worker accommodation sites under Sarathat Engineering Company Limited. The first was the SVRC117 project construction worker’s accommodation on Petchkasem Road Soi 3, Wat Tha Phra Subdistrict, Bangkok, with 134 migrant workers.
